In this period, the industry Established itself as a major exporter of RMG to USA, Canada and The EEC countries. Vigorous attempts are also under way to promote export of RMG to the Japanese, Australia, Middle East and The newly emerged Commonwealth of Independent State markets. Product categories have also been expanded from 4-5 in 1982-1983To over 60 as of now in 2002 Use of local fabrics and accessorizes are also on the increase in the manufacturer of RMG today Bangladesh is a significant exporter of RMG in twenty countries of the world on quality basis Bangladesh is the 7th largest exporter of garments to the USA and 9th largest to Canada and largest supplier of woven shirt and t-shirt sweater and trousers to the EEC. Today there are over 4500 manufacturing units producing RMG for export using over 5,50,000 machineries and employing over 15,00,000 worker of which 85% are women who did not have any employment opportunity in the past in any organizer sector .the meteoric expansion on RMG and hosiery sector export has proved the efficiency adaptability and deftness of our workforce and labor intensive industries are sure to achieve success due to its importance to the country’s economy the RMG industry is allowed certain privileges and advantages not easily enjoyed by other industries.
